Entanglements in Crop Gathering
Whereas entanglements in crop gathering units of self-propelled harvesting machines used in agriculture have resulted in serious injuries or death;
Whereas operators working along have been involved in a significant portion of these accidents;
Whereas experience has shown the value of standards in reducing the potential for accidents;
Be it therefore resolved...
...that the President of NIFS communicate in writing to the American Society of Agricultural Engineers that the National Institute for Farm Safety recommends investigation, evaluation, and possible development of a standard for an automatic means to stop the gathering units, prior to potential operator entanglement.
