Power Take-Off (PTO) Adapting Devices
Whereas the growing number of imported tractors with multi-speed shiftable PTOs that allow overspeeding of 540-rpm PTO-driven machines, and because of the availability of PTO adapters which permit conversion of 1000-rpm splines to 540-rpm splines on United States built tractors;
Be it therefore resolved...
...that the membership of the National Institute for Farm Safety, Inc., requests that the secretary contact manufacturers of power take-off (PTO) adapting devices for converting the PTO-shaft from 1000-rpm splines to 540-rpm splines, urging them to include warning decals explaining the potential hazards of overspeeding equipment;
And, be it further resolved...
...that equipment manufacturers be requested to investigate and make available rpm listing clutches for 540-rpm equipment;
And, be it further resolved...
...that the appropriate Standards Committee within ASAE be informed of the NIFS concern regarding the potential hazards of overspeeding that may be caused by multi-speed PTO tractor and/or PTO adapter devices.
