Raise the Drinking Age to 21
Whereas the lowering of the drinking age from 21 to 18 or 19 for beer and wine has increased drinking among teenagers;
Whereas the growing number of young people who are injured and killed in highway accidents involving the consumption of alcohol is alarming;
Whereas a growing number of parents, school officials, religious leaders, as well as the insurance industry, and young people themselves, are convinced that lowering the drinking age was a mistake which should be corrected by the states' legislators;
Be it therefore resolved...
...that the National Institute for Farm Safety, Inc., in its continuing concern regarding alcohol-related traffic fatalities and injuries, urge its membership to support legislation to raise the drinking age to 21 years of age uniformly for all alcoholic beverages, and communicate their concern to their respective legislators.
