Use of Solid Fuel Appliances

 

Whereas the worldwide energy shortage has renewed interest and advantages in the use of solid fuel for home heating and cooking;

Whereas public knowledge of the hazards involved in the installation and use of solid burning appliances is at an all-time low;

Whereas improper installation and use of solid fuel appliances has been responsible for numerous serious home fires causing property damage and loss of life;

And, whereas, current NFPA standards on fire prevention involving solid fuel appliances were developed prior to the development of current building technology (in the 1930s);

Be it therefore resolved...

...that the National Institute for Farm Safety, Inc., urge the National Fire Protection Association to update standards involving installation of solid fuel burning appliances to bring them in line with current building material and method.
