Bicycle Accidents

Whereas the National Institute for Farm Safety, Inc., membership is conscious of the rapidly increasing numbers of deaths and injuries involving bicycle riders;

Whereas there is a lack of recent research bearing on this problem;

Whereas these mailboxes are necessarily located near road traffic and are often supported by robust structures to withstand vandalism, contact with road maintenance machinery, and the like;

We therefore request that the Department of Transportation initiate studies and research on bicycle accidents that would include: time of day, bicycle type, type of accident, age and sex of rider, accident location (rural, urban, public, or private property), and cause of accident.
