Agricultural Safety Leader

 

Whereas in the year 1971 there were approximately 6,700 farm resident fatalities and 580,000 injuries with total estimated financial loss to farm families and to agriculture of $2 billion;

Whereas there has been a significant increase in the accident rate in agricultural during the past ten years while others have shown a decrease;

Whereas it has been proven that those few states which employ full-time safety coordinators or leaders in agriculture have reduced accident frequencies;

Be it therefore resolved...

...that the National Institute for Farm Safety, Inc., recommend and encourage the appropriation by Congress of sufficient funds to facilitate and support a full-time, qualified agricultural safety leader in the cooperative extension service of each state and in the extension of USDA.
