Electrical Equipment on Farms
Whereas the use of electrical equipment on United States farms is a major time and labor saving input in farm operations;
Whereas the electrical supply for this equipment is primarily supplied by overhead powerlines;
Whereas due to the light of the larger agricultural equipment (i.e., augers, combines, grain trucks) and irrigation equipment, there is always the potential of contact with overhead power lines;
Whereas this accidental contact can result in the electrocution of an operator or assistants;
Be it therefore resolved...
...that the National Institute for Farm Safety, Inc., contact the appropriate voluntary standards organizations, ANSI, NFPA, and ASAE, to review their minimum vertical clearance of wires, conductors and cables above ground, rail and waterr requirements;
And, be it further resolved...
...that the Chairman of the Home and Farmstead Committee of the National Institute for Farm Safety, Inc., contact the Food and Energy Council expressing the Institute's concerns related to overhead powerline clearances in service areas, etc., and request that a Council representative meet with the Home and Farmstead Committee in St. Louis during the 1985 Summer Meeting of the National Institute for Farm Safety, Inc., to explore possible alternatives.
