AWARDS

1. MAYNARD COE AWARD

The Maynard Coe award recognizes the important role played by Maynard Coe in the early years of the organization. Coe served as director of the Farm Division of the National Safety Council for 20 years, and in that capacity he enlisted the help of dedicated people in universities, farm organizations and agricultural industry establishing farm safety as a recognized profession. From the beginning he was an inspiration to farm safety specialists and educators, giving them advice and encouragement. Later, when numbers increased, he urged them to form their own professional organization.

To encourage high levels of professionalism among farm safety leaders, Coe assisted the directors of NIFS in establishing an award for professional achievement in farm safety. The award consists of a plaque and certificate and is to be known as the Maynard Coe award for professional achievement in farm safety.

Nominations and final decisions as to awardees are to be administered by the NIFS Professional Improvement committee. Nominations for the award are to be solicited from the membership annually (at least 3 months in advance of the annual meeting). Persons making nominations to the committee should provide necessary background information or support materials.

2. NIFS PRESIDENT'S AWARD

This award is to be made at the discretion of the NIFS President. No special criteria or nomination procedure is set forth. The award is to consist of a plaque and certificate and may be made to members or nonmembers for service provided to the organization. There is no limit on the number of awards that may be made annually.

3. FARM SAFETY AWARDS

The purpose of these awards is to recognize exemplary contributions to agricultural safety and health work and to establish broader public recognition of agricultural safety and health priorities and activities of NIFS. They should be made annually.

These non-monetary awards consist of a plaque and certificate. There is no limit on how many may be awarded in any given year. They may be made to members or nonmembers. Award nominations shall be requested on a broad public basis and considered annually. Administration of these awards shall be the responsibility if the Research Development committee.

Two separate awards in the areas of research and development shall be considered for nominated activities addressing stated NIFS agricultural safety and health priorities. Nominations for the awards are to be solicited from the membership annually (at least 3 months in advance of the annual meeting). Persons making nominations to the committee should provide necessary background information or support materials.
